Gauhati University Admission 2026-27: Gauhati University admission has not started yet for the academic session 2026. The university will be conducting the entrance examination, and students are subject to admission through the merit list only. Eligibility for admission in UG courses is 10+2 with a minimum 50% of 50% marks. Admission in PG courses requires a bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 50% marks in their bachelor. Final selection will be on the basis of the merit list from the entrance examination. Guwahati University ranks 57th in the latest ranking by NIRF.

It is the university known as GU was established in 26 january 1948 by an act of the assam legislative assembly. It  is the oldest university in the whole north east. It is a collegiate public university whose chancellor is governor of the state, it offers various degree programs, diploma programs and certificate programs. GAUHATI University Admission Eligibility For UG Courses 

Students who have passed the 10+2 or equivalent examination in any stream from a recognised board are eligible to apply for admission.asmission in the FYUGP will be based on the preference of major, in case students doesn’t want to opt any major they will be admitted on the basis of marks in their subject combination. Admission to any major or stream will be subject to the availability of the program and the seats available. No student shall be eligible for admission to a program in any discipline under the FYUGP if they don’t meet the requirements set by the university. GAUHATI University Admission Eligibility For PG Courses

BA, BSc, BCom, BCA, BVoc, with 10+2+3 pattern with major in the concerned subject or 10+2+3 with a regular course with at least 24 credits in the concerned subject; however, some specific courses have specific requirements set by the concerned department or school. Admission will be accepted purely on the basis of entrance examinations conducted by the university. An applicant who has already completed a PG degree from Gauhati University or got admission into the University, whether completed or not, will be considered as a fresh applicant.

Requests for allotment of the hostel will be accepted only in the case of available seats after exhaustion of the limit by the fresh candidates.So, this is the Gauhati University admission eligibility criteria for the postgraduate courses.

Gauhati University Admission Fee Structure 

Candidates can enroll in any course by paying the fee. Course fee depends upon the course that one pursues , it normally ranges between INR 2500 to INR 2.5 lakh. Total fee is calculated by the number of factors, including tuition fee, examination fee and hostel fee.Apart from those there are other fees as well. Students are required to pay registration charges which are different for different years. An examination fee is also required before every examination. Students are advised to visit the official website for any new update. Students can pay the fee online or offline. Form is only considered filled after the successful payment of the fee.

Gauhati University Admission Process Online

• Registration– enter name, contact details, date of birth, GU registration number(if applicable), government identity card, select the program and study centre/learner support centre. On submission, a payment challan will be generated.
• Pay fee– after receiving the payment challan, go to the payment link and pay the fee as per challan.
• Declaration and OTP verification-login to the dashboard using the challan number and date of birth. For the first time you are required to enter an access code reflected on the bottom of challan
• Enter personal details, Payment details and Upload Documents -now enter all the personal details and bank details and details of category and upload all the necessary scanned copies of the documents. Upon submission you will receive an application form which you have to submit at the study centre 
• Verification and roll no. generation– After the successful submission of the form you are required to submit the application form to the concerned study centre, once done you will receive a roll no.

• Students and their parents are advised to visit the web pages of particular departments and colleges for necessary information.
• Keep ready all the documents and information required to submit along with the application form.
• An applicant can only apply to one traditional course and 2 interdisciplinary courses.
• Application form is editable during the filling process but will not be ditable once submitted 
• You can submit the form even if your results of your qualifying degree are pending.
• Email id and phone number will be registered for any future communication from the university side 
• Please check the eligibility condition of the program, before applying for any courses.
• The provisional merit list will be published on the official website.
• Name on the merit list does not guarantee admission in the university; students are required to meet the eligibility criteria

Gauhati University Reservation of Seats 

Sc students will have 7 % of the seats reserved for them, SCHEDULE TRIBES will have 10% reservation of the seats, Obc and MOBC will have 27% reservation in the seats offered by the university. Differently abled students will have 3% reservation in the seats offered. There are various reservation quota for Kashmiri migrants and war widows as well as the for ex-defence employees. NCC and NSS students also have few seats reserved for them.

• 70% seats in traditional programs are reserved for the student students from Gauhati University, remaining 30% seats are for other students.
• All interdisciplinary courses are open to all students irrespective of their institution.

Gauhati University Placements 

The placement cell of the Gauhati University facilitates the process of placement of the students by collaborating with leading employers of the private and public sectors. The placement cell acts as an intermediary meeting point between students and employers. Placent cell organizes different types of placement drives, job fairs and motivational sessions and job-specific counseling to its students. Average package of the university is 7.35 LPA, whereas the highest package has gone upto 12 LPA 2 which is a good average with respect to the other university.
